I have already cut up the cards and stopped spending, I have never smoked and haven’t “partied” since I got pregnant 3 1/2 years ago. I do have a 3 year old still in diapers who refuse to potty train and diapers are costing alot a month!

is it better to pay off your credit cards with a debt consolidation or just pay it off yourself?

Debt consolidation will leave you with a huge debt ratio, and close all your credit cards?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of debt consolidation?

Detailed answers would be appreciated.
Update: Am I correct to assume that if I leave the debt as it is, I can have it completely wiped off my credit card two years from now as if it never happened?

I’m looking at buying a home, but have a $6,000 credit card debt to eliminate first?

Join the military or go to college?

I’m academically competitive but scholarships are so hard to get and I really don’t want to take out outrageous loans. What is the smartest thing to do that will put me in a better position in the long term?
I have spoken with a recruiter. I am aware of NROTC and I will apply once I hear if I am accepted or not. I went to MEPS to be processed recently but I was 3 pounds overweight and the rate I wanted was over manned anyway so I basically took it as a sign to re-evaluate and see what I can do. I will either attend USC or join the Navy.
